Police Procedural Thriller Heat Lightning, by John Sandford: 

When bodies keep turning up at Minnesota war memorials in HEAT LIGHTNING, a police procedural series thriller, Detective Virgil Flowers must once again race across the prairie to stop a serial killer. Virgil soon learns that the killer has a list, the list relates to the Vietnam War, and those on the list are all too soon exiting this world with a lemon-stuffed mouth. An old anti-war professor and young Vietnamese woman keep Virgil dancing on his toes as he crosses state lines to apprehend the killer and his crew before the last man is down.
