Orange Is the New Black, by Piper Kerman
Recent Smith grad Piper Kerman takes a risk for adventure and smuggles drug money into Belgium only to find herself sentenced to fifteen months in prison ten years later in memoir ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. While turning thirty-five in Danbury Federal Correctional Institution in 2004, Piper learns much about the electrical and construction trades. More important, she learns that indifference to the suffering of others is the crucible of crime, that no one is irredeemable, and that even in such a dismal setting as prison, warmth and compassion abound.
