Memoir Educated

Educated, by Tara Westover

The youngest of seven children, I was brought up to be a good Mormon wife, modest and subservient, an herbalist and illegal midwife like my mother, who won’t speak to me now that I’m Dr. Tara Westover. I miss my family and the mountains overlooking our Idaho valley, but I don’t miss working in Dad’s junkyard or being called a whore or enduring my brother’s bone-breaking tortures in memoir EDUCATED. Now that I’m twenty-seven, an unschooled child with a PhD from Cambridge, I don’t feel ashamed to be myself. I no longer feel ignorant or helpless. I feel educated.
