Literary War Novel The Things They Carried

The Things They Carried, by Tim O’Brien

They carry guns. They carry grenades. They carry comic books and candy bars and a photo of the girl back home. They carry hope and insect repellant and Bibles; fear, fellowship, funny stories, and sore feet. And when I get shot, they carry me, Tim O’Brien, conscientious objector from Minnesota who is too cowardly to cross the border into Canada and goes to war instead, in literary novel THE THINGS THEY CARRIED. And so they carry broken hearts, broken bodies, and broken dreams. But no matter what else they carry, they will always carry Vietnam.
