Literary Novel State of Wonder

State of Wonder, by Ann Patchett:

When her lab partner, Anders Eckman, is reported to have died while on a mission to the Amazon jungle to check on the efficacy of a new fertility drug for a Minnesota-based pharmaceutical company, Marina Singh feels duty-bound to find out what happened to him in literary novel STATE OF WONDER. Is he really dead as the letter from the on-site research scientist states or just missing as his wife insists? During  her quest, Marina overcomes fear of deadly snakes, the unknown, and her own incompetence as a medical doctor to save lives, enrich her own, and bring Anders home.
