Healthy / Healthful

Certain sets of words in the English language tend to confuse writers. I have found the following to be among them:

HEALTHY / HEALTHFUL

The adjective healthy describes a person, animal, or plant that is in good health. The adjective healthful describes something, such as a nutritious food, that promotes good health.

Incorrect: I try to eat a healthy diet.

Correct: I try to eat a healthful diet.

If you want to be healthy, you would be wise to eat healthful foods and get plenty of exercise.
