Assure / Ensure / Insure

Know Your Words

Certain sets of words in the English language tend to confuse people. I have found the following to be among them:

ASSURE / ENSURE / INSURE

While these three verbs are interchangeable in certain contexts in that they all can mean make someone or something sure, there are nuances that differ. To assure is to promise; to ensure is to make certain; to insure is to safeguard

CORRECT: I assure you that insuring one’s property ensures great peace of mind.
