Thriller Night Fall

Thriller Night Fall, by Nelson DeMille:

I, John Corey, never could resist a challenge. So when my FBI-agent wife waves under my nose a five-year-old closed case she has been officially warned to leave alone, this former NYPD homicide detective hits the streets in series thriller NIGHT FALL to investigate a 1996 airliner explosion that killed 230 people off Long Island. Was it really due to mechanical failure, or was it caused by a missile? I finally get the proof to blow this case sky high only to have it disappear in a puff of smoke on 9/11. We should have known. Now I do.

  1. i’ve read all books by de mille and especially enjoyed this one because i was living on long island when this tragedy occured. a friend went out there in his small boat to see if he could rescue anyone. another very close friend saw the missile heading towards the plane. i spoke with a former coast guard guy who was out there doing recon. when he saw the missile…..he was resigned. my friend’s lawyer was doing his reserves stint that night and he said he saw a missile. verrrrry interesting! LOVED the story de mille came up with from the “event”. thanks, ann.

    1. Wow. I had no idea, Margie. I was living overseas when this happened, but I found the novel very interesting, and of course, DeMille is an excellent writer. I especially like his John Corey character, who “starred” in Night Fall. Thanks so much for your comments. They are also very interesting!

  2. What a creative HOOK! This is one of the best Query Letter examples I have ever read. Thanks for sharing. Now my true task is: How can I best plagerize your creative genius?

    1. Thank you, Don, for such a rousing endorsement. I feel truly honored and humbled by such praise. The good news is that you, like I, don’t need to be a genius to write such a pitch. I spell it all out for you in my book, The Novel Pitch: Everything You Need to Know to Write a Successful Query for Your Fiction. But to give you a head start, I’ll email you the basics, and I’d love to see what you come up with for whatever pitch it is you want to write. Good luck!
