With or Without You, by Domenica Ruta:
I’m four years old when Kathi sets me on the hood of her hatchback – the Shitbox, we call it — so that I can watch her smash the windshield of a car with an iron poker from our tiny Massachusetts home. But that’s my mother, forever full of drugs and alcohol and volatile Italian blood as she romps through my fractured childhood in memoir WITH OR WITHOUT YOU. I survive to enter my third decade only by giving up all my addictions: drugs, alcohol, and Kathi. My name is Domenica Ruta, and I am on the road to recovery.

NOTE: The above is a sample pitch, categorized by type of fiction, that I wrote for instructional purposes only. Although memoirs are supposedly nonfiction, they are treated in the same manner as fiction for the purposes of literary queries. This “pitch” was written after the book was published and was never used by the author or anyone else to actually pitch a book.
