What the Scarecrow Said, by Stewart David Ikeda:
The 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor demolishes more than U.S. warships in historical literary novel WHAT THE SCARECROW SAID: it disrupts the life of California nurseryman Bill Fujita and destroys his family. After the Fujitas have been forced to move to a Japanese internment camp, Bill loses his home and business to unscrupulous developers, his son to the war, and his wife to grief. Once released, he lives only to find his grandbaby and, in so doing, forms a new family of lost souls among non-Japanese residents of a small Massachusetts town where love and loyalty transcend racial barriers.
