A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles
When Count Alexander Rostov, at age thirty-two, is sentenced to house arrest at Moscow’s Metropol for the rest of his life by a Communist tribunal in 1922, he finds himself relegated to a small attic room in historical literary novel A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW. Though denied the luxury of his former suite as well as access to the outside world, he is free to roam within the hotel where he meets and befriends a nine-year-old girl and years later adopts her daughter, Sofia, cherishing the joys and sacrifices of fatherhood that ultimately bring both him and Sofia true freedom.
