Nutty as a Fruitcake, by Mary Daheim:
’Tis the season for murder when elderly, cantankerous Enid Goodrich is found hacked to death in her home and her husband unconscious due to an apparent suicide attempt in Bed-and-Breakfast Mystery NUTTY AS A FRUITCAKE. Christmas preparations at Seattle’s Hillside Manor are consequently interrupted as proprietor Judith Flynn, her ebullient cousin Renie, and various nosy neighbors intersperse traditional holiday rituals and newly zealous community decorating with surreptitious sleuthing. Thanks to Judith’s endless patience, energetic hard work, and voracious curiosity, the cookies get baked, the tree adorned, and the murder properly solved. Tea, anyone?
